Sara Sand is working to identify the ion conducting pathways with polymer-ceramic composite electrolytes for all-solid-state batteries. By creating model systems, she is identifying the contribution of conductivity within the bulk of each material verses the interface between the two. Ultimately, this will be used to design an ideal composite structure to optimize the conductivity while maintaining the benefits of a flexible, solid electrolyte.
